Pump of the Week Review this week is the Phanpy E-Joy S2 and I am very pleased with how the testing of these pumps went!
Something to keep in mind about pumping is that it is very personal. What might work for me might not work for you and vice versa. I am just sharing my honest review and opinion about these pumps so you can research and decide if you want to invest in them! Here are some things to know about me before we dive into this review: I've been EP for almost a year, I am an overproducer, I am a size 15mm flange, I am a small C cup. You can read my full Pumping disclosure here!
These wearable breast pumps come with two touch screen LED motors that sit directly on top of Food grade, BPA Free, collection cups with a 7oz capacity. There are only 5 parts total: collection cups, air bag (back flow protector), duck bill, and connector piece (excluding the motors) so taking it apart and putting it back together is very easy. The motors are more oblong, or kidney bean shaped, and I find that they sit a little bit better in my bra as they are more parallel to my body.Â
Motors
The motors have 3 settings: stimulation, expression, and massage. Stimulation goes up to level X. You can start in stimulation mode and the motors will auto switch to expression after 2 minutes, which I think is great! Sometimes it’s nice to set it and forget it. It also is a vibrating stimulation setting, which can sometimes help with let down. I personally don’t love vibration during pumping but this wasn’t enough to deter me from utilizing the stimulation mode! They boast a 5-6 session battery life, which I can attest to. I've only had to charge these 1x for the few weeks I've had them, using them 2-3x a week.
Settings
Expression mode was great and had strong suction and goes up to level 8. I had more than one let down in expression mode, which is normal for me and how I judge my response to pumps. You can only adjust suction and not cycle on these, and I was comfortable around level 5-6. I have gotten my normal 5-6 oz output each time I’ve used these. Remember - wearables should not be your primary pump.
I can’t say much about the massage mode as it did not feel any different to me than stimulation mode, so I stuck with stimulation and expression but I could see having a third option being great for mamas who need to switch things up during sessions to promote more let downs. This mode goes up to level 6.
Replacement Parts
You can snag replacement parts on Amazon but you'll have to buy the whole set - collection cups, air bag (back flow protector), and duck bills. I can see this being cost prohibitive for some although having extra collection cups is not always a bad thing!
Pumping on the Go
I’ve pumped in the car and found they are very comfortable. I didn’t feel like the cups/flanges were digging in and because the motors are shaped the way they are, I felt like they didn’t interfere with the seat belt placement which I run into often because of my breast size. I found myself reaching for those while out and about because there is no tubing. The motors are quiet enough no one could really hear that I was pumping, which is always a plus. The cups aren’t super discreet, but I wore an oversized black shirt while I was out pumping at the aquarium one day and it was fairly hard to tell that I had pumps in!
Issues
My only other qualm outside of the replacement part issue, was how sensitive the touch screen is, which isn't really that big of an issue in the grand scheme of things for wearable pumps. If I went to readjust, I would find that I would accidentally bump one of the buttons on the motor, it would cause it to either change settings or pause. If you're running around and don't realize you've accidentally paused one of the motors, I can see that being problematic.
Overall, I think these are a solid wearable pump option! The battery lasts long, I've been using they 2-3x week for the last 3 weeks and have had no loss in suction and I think for the price point of $69.99 these are definitely something to put on your list. Review Disclaimer: I am just a regular shmegular mom who had to turn to exclusive pumping in order to continue to breastfeed. I had a good internet connection and the right kind of ADHD to make researching and deep diving possible.
