Pumping Is Doing Something

Pumping is doing something. 

Say that again. Pumping is doing something. 

I remember seeing a targeted ad for collection cups and it was a video of a woman working out while pumping. WORKING OUT! I love that it showed off how stable/structured her pumping bra was and that her new collection cups were nice and snuggled in her bra, but in my early postpartum days, I truly thought I always had to be doing something. My husband had to remind me that pumping and taking care of the baby was doing something.

I absolutely 100% support you if you want to multitask while pumping. If you’re comfortable doing it, you should.  

But if you’re an exclusive pumper? Pumping ALL DAY? Give yourself permission to rest. 

I know. There’s so much to do! But there will always be so much to do. The laundry’s piled up, the dishwasher needs to be unloaded. You’ve been solo parenting all day. It’s a lot. But this is just a season. Nothing is permanent - the good and the bad things that come with postpartum. It’s ok if things pile up for a day or two.

One thing that really helped my husband and I was working out a cleaning and care schedule. My husband runs his own business so it’s a little different than if we both working full time or if he was working a regular job, but once we sorted through how to make that work, things around the house stopped feeling like they were piling up.

It doesn’t have to be every pump session if you feel like the anxiety and overwhelm is building up. But if you got the baby down for a nap and you need to pump? Just pump, mama. 

Because pumping is doing something.
